Mokutanya: Experience Authentic Ramen and Skewers in a Romantic Setting

I'm writing this review based on my second visit, which was different from the first. During my first visit, the service was quick, and the food was delicious and on point. However, my recent visit was not as great. The edamame was excessively salty, and the salt wasn't mixed well with it. Most of the food we ordered was also salty. Additionally, the ramen we ordered did not arrive on time, so we eventually asked them to pack it to-go. They mentioned two or three times that it was on the way, but the service wasn't as efficient as during our first visit. Overall, it was a disappointing night, and the experience felt off. Despite this, I’m still willing to give them another chance.

The waitress was courteous, responsive, and attentive to all our requests. The food came relatively quickly and most of them were pretty good. We really liked the spicy pork belly, onigiri and fried squid. A minor complaint is that some of the seasonings were too heavy, making the food a bit salty. Overall, I think the food quality is nice, with good service and atmosphere, I think the price is very reasonable.

A remarkable and delicious dining experience! Me and my buddies dropped in for dinner on the way of town totally blind. We were looking for an authentic ramen, which two of us had never had (just the packaged stuff). The atmosphere was delightfully unique, with stocke sunken tables in glass enclosures, we could see other dinners, but barely hear them, even the large party next to us. It was a fun blend of intimate and public dining. The ramen bowls we had were amazing! So delicious, with subtle blend of flavors. The bowls were about the size of my head! My only complaint was that it was challenging to get in and out of the sunken tables. I'm not as spry as I used to be and we joked that my buddies were going to need to haul me out. I was able to get up on under my own power, but it was a close thing. Not recommended if you are mobility challenged. Still, the food was worth it, even at the risk of embarrassing ourselves climbing in and out.

We did not know what to expect going in but this was an amazing experience. Having just come from Japan weeks earlier - the food and service were what we came to expect traveling through Japan. I could list everything we ate from the ramen to the salmon wrapped with bacon. Nothing missed. And my daughter loves K-pop so the music worked out for us. Maybe not everyone would want that but being a lover of music and not knowing the music- I was good with it. That might be the only variable for some.

An awesome place to go to with friends or coworkers. We went here on a Saturday night for a work party and it was a great experience. The food is well priced and the wagyu was delicious as hell. The sakes as well were very well priced and were STRONG. Will definitely be going back.

we enjoy visiting Mokutanya restaurant whenever we are in Burlingame. Mokutanya has truly become our go-to spot in the area. The skewers are always incredibly juicy and delicious. We also want to commend your staff for being so friendly and providing such great service. The manager or owner May has made us feel very welcome every time we visit. Thank you for the wonderful experiences. We look forward to our next visit!

The food is legit. Pretty Japanese style with reasonable price. Just store is too dark, and the lot might be hard for parking

Came to try the ramen. Not bad, but I guess this must be a pattern in the US - Instead of focusing on bringing out subtle flavors, like, in this case, the umami of the beef in the soup, there's a tendency to overpower with either garlic or pepper, rendering the taste buds paralyzed. But the akagyu was definitely tasty! Great service too!
